The Bible is a ancient book, its contents written between 2000 and 3000 years ago in cultures vastly different from our own. Why do we cling to its every word and use it as a guidebook for our lives? What can we gain from studying the religious writings of a tribal people in a warrior culture living in desert?
Nobody (well, almost nobody) still clings to the words of Xenophon and keeps multiple translations of his written works on their bookshelves. He had some good stuff to say but for the most part has faded into oblivion.
Not so with the Bible. We study it, memorize it, and obey it. And we tell other people they need to read it and obey it.
This website’s goal is to shed some light on the Bible and help us think about how to think about it.
